Keegan and Garth drifting along

It was more like sailing camp!

Keegan tells us about the weekend!

"Our weekend canoe adventure was amazing! The weather was great as we did not get even a drop of rain. Lot's of fun was had by all who attended. We saw approximately one hundred seals on a sand bar which looked like rocks until we looked more carefully through binoculars and saw them move.

As we traveled, we also saw eel and lobster traps. We were able to sail the canoes most of the way on Saturday, and we were extremely happy to have the wind with us rather than against us! We think we passed our campsite, so we set up camp on another part of the island and had a great campfire. It really was a spectacular weekend!"

This was an abandoned fish factory site.

It was difficult to locate an appropriate site to camp along the dune. Parks Canada told us that we can camp on beach anywhere along the beach, but the north wind that night was too strong. We chose an already impacted site (abandoned shed nearby was an old first nations building and near our tents was a fresh water well. Older folk from area remember that the dune was opened through at this location. These dunes are so very fragile and it is important to walk carefully.
